Marriage Licenses

***MARRIAGE LICENSES CAN BE OBTAINED BY APPOINTMENT ONLY***

Licenses may be obtained by appointment only and may take 30-45 minutes. Appointments may be scheduled Tuesdays & Wednesdays, with last available appointment time being 3:00pm. You may schedule by calling or emailing the Town Clerk – 603-529-7527 or [email protected]

All persons wishing to be married in New Hampshire must complete a Marriage License application at any City or Town Clerk office, regardless of their place of residence (this includes out-of-state residents), and the marriage ceremony need not take place in the same city or town in which the license is issued.

For your convenience, there is a Marriage License Worksheet to gather all the necessary information needed to complete the marriage license. ***This document is not an official marriage license and is to be used for information gathering purposes only.***

o Both parties must be 18 years of age or older.  Both parties must provide a Driver's License or other government-issued photo identification.

o The marriage license is valid for 90 days from issuance and must be returned to the issuing Town or City Clerk within 6 days of the ceremony by the officiant in person or by mail.

o If this is not your first marriage, you will need to have an original certified decree reflecting how the most immediate previous marriage(s) ended (Death Certificate, Divorce Decree or Annulment Certificate with a Raised Seal).

o The fee for obtaining a marriage license is $50, payable by cash, check, credit or debit card. Cards charge a $2.50 processing fee.

o After the Town Clerk has received your completed Marriage License from your officiant (needs to be received within 6 days of the marriage) and has entered the information into the state system, you can proceed to apply for your official Marriage Certificate.

Procedures for Obtaining a Marriage Certificate

o You can apply for an official certified Marriage Certificate by visiting any Town or City Clerk's Office in the State of New Hampshire with your Driver's License or ID and complete an application.

o Cost for this service is $15 for first copy and $10 for each additional copy requested at the same time.
